I’ve had several people asking questions about Alex Malarkey and his recant of his part in the book “The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven”. It all looks confusing, but here are a few facts I’ve found that might clear up a little bit of the confusion.
Frankly, I don’t like assumptions and rumors because they can hurt people needlessly. So you can click on the “more here” to take you to further articles. Some of those are secular news sites, so please be careful with the ads that might pop up. *my disclaimer* 🙂
So did he or did he not say he went to heaven?
- Yes, as a 6-year-old just coming out of major brain trauma and two months in a coma, he did say those things to get attention – not that he actually went to heaven. More here.
- However, it also seems as though the book contract was made with Kevin Malarkey, not Alex or his mother, Beth. More here.
- Kevin and Beth Malarkey were divorced since the accident which caused Alex’s injuries. Beth claims Kevin has not been fully providing for them financially. More here.
- Alex has received no money from the royalties of the book, according to Beth, his mother. And she could provide financial statements proving this. More here and here.
If you wish to read what Alex’s mother, Beth, has to say in her own words, you can visit her blog with her concerns she has had about this book for a long time now. Her blog is Life’s a Journey.
Hope this helps a bit! Keep your guard up, folks. Not everything that comes out of a Christian publishing house or even labeled as a “Christian” movie will be the truth.
We believe in the inerrancy and sufficiency of the Scriptures. Jesus said, “Thy Word is truth.” And so we not only believe it, we also base our worldview upon it.
